The American Red Cross Scranton Chapter Announces Pet First Aid Class helps pet lovers meet health and safety needs
April 30, 2008, SCRANTON, PA-- The Scranton Chapter of the American Red Cross is known for helping to keep citizens of Lackawanna County and their families safe and healthy. Now with Pet First Aid, the Scranton Chapter’s mission of preventing, preparing for, and responding to emergencies is reaching another demographic; pet owners. The comprehensive training class includes everything owners need to know from basic pet owner responsibilities, like spaying, neutering and administering medications to managing breathing or cardiac emergencies and preparing for disasters. These classes offer information and advice pet owners can trust.
Pet ownership is currently at its highest level, with 63 percent of all U.S. households owning a pet. That means pets are part of more than 69 million households.
“This class is a must have for pet lovers- homes with dogs and cats really should not be without it,” points out Kristen Sampson, Director of Health and Safety Services. “We know pet owners enjoy a very special bond with their pets—they’re part of the family. Just like people, accidents and emergencies can happen and being prepared by knowing what to do can make a lifesaving difference.”
Pet First Aid classes will begin this May. The first class is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, 2008 from 9:00am- 1:00pm at the Scranton Chapter of the American Red Cross, 545 Jefferson Ave. Scranton, PA 18510. This class is a valuable resource for cat and dog owners, dog handlers for therapy dogs, police K-9 units, and search and rescue units. For more information on Pet First Aid or to enroll in an upcoming class, please call 570-207-0117.
The American Red Cross provides relief to victims of disasters at home and abroad, collects and distributes nearly half of the nation's blood supply, teaches lifesaving skills, and supports military members and families. The American Red Cross, a charity and not a government agency, depends on voluntary contributions of time, money and blood to perform its humanitarian mission.
